This project will investigate the vulnerability of onshore wind turbines in seismic areas. Combined impact of concurrent wind and earthquake demands, repeated significant earthquakes over the turbine’s lifespan, potential structural deterioration from extreme operational and environmental conditions, and the influences of soil-structure interaction (SSI) will be studied and their inherent and epistemic uncertainties will be quantified and propagated with the purpose to propose a robust probabilistic Performance-Based Engineering (PBE) framework for wind turbine analysis and design.
