Statics

This course forms the basis of engineering mechanics. It is intended that the students develop the abilities and knowledge to understand, solve, and visualize different problems of mechanical and structural systems in static equilibrium.

The main topics of the class are:

  • Force and force systems.
  • Equilibrium of particles and rigid bodies in two and three dimensions.
  • Internal forces and moments in solids.
  • Basic structural systems: beams, frames, arches, cables, trusses, suspended beams.
  • Principle of virtual work.
  • Influence lines.
